PARAChild

Many parents feel their young child is still sick. Indeed, toddlers are sensitive to microbes (viruses or bacteria) that cause infections. They easily get colds, gastroenteritis and other infections. Why? Because their defense system against germs (their immune system) is not yet developed enough ... and because they can handle everything!

In young children, infections are most often caused by viruses. Usually, they are not serious, do not last very long, and will recover on their own. These infections are often more numerous in the first year of child care. They decrease as a child ages and develops his immune system. Germs are found everywhere in the environment of toddlers: on toys, floors and doorknobs, for example. They are also present in adults and other children around them, in the nose, mouth, eyes, stools, and even on the skin. Animals can also carry it.

It is not possible to completely avoid germs. In fact, some exposure to germs is even essential for the proper development of your child's immune system. It helps him build his personal reserve of antibodies for the future. The most important level for immunity is in the intestine, with the "friendly" bacteria which fight against viruses, bacteria and other microbes hence the importance of keeping this first weapon in good health.

Another source of concern for parents: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the fashionable diagnosis of the 2000s. We hear about it everywhere: at school at meetings with the teacher, between parents at the arena or over dinner, on the radio, on TV, in the newspapers, etc. We hear or read catastrophic reports about the medication and often both will have their very strong opinions about this diagnosis, but especially about its main treatment.

The brain needs the support of essential fatty acids in order to function properly and these are not always present in the North American diet.
