PARAArticulations
An articulation, in anatomy, is a junction zone between two bone ends, or between a bone and a tooth. An articulation (or a joint) is more or less mobile according to its constitution, its shape, and the nature of the surrounding elements. Arthrology, or syndesmology, is the part of anatomy that deals with the joints. Two classifications, morphological and functional, coexist for the joints, and do not overlap completely.
The functional classification is based on the mobility of the joints and distinguishes:
the mobile joints, united in a discontinuous way or diarthrosis, which allow many movements, semi-mobile joints, or amphiarthroses, which allow little movement, immobile joints, or synarthroses, which do not allow any movement. The morphological classification of joints is carried out according to their composition:
a fibrous joint is made up of fibrous tissue, a cartilage joint is made up of hyaline cartilage or fibrocartilage, a synovial joint is made up of a fibrous capsule containing synovial fluid.
